Social media platform, TikTok has introduced a text-only post feature, which allows users to share text-only content. The app which is known for its short-form videos will open fresh avenues for written creative expression. This text option allows users to post short stories, poems, recipes, and other narratives, providing a dedicated space for the textual flair often contained in video captions and comments.

TikTok announced the new feature in a blog post. The launch of text-only posts will compete with Threads and Twitter. The new feature will add to TikTok’s loved features like LIVE, Duets, Stitches, video and photo sharing.

“With text posts, we’re expanding the boundaries of content creation for everyone on TikTok, giving the written creativity we’ve seen in comments, captions, and videos a dedicated space to shine,” the company’s blog post said.

The feature allows users to post without any visuals such as videos and photos, which in the past the app allowed users to add texts over videos or photos.

Text posts can be up to 1,000 characters long, a TikTok spokesperson said in an email. The app will continue to limit video descriptions to 2,200 characters and comments to 150 characters, the company said.
