South African drivers can find relief as petrol and diesel prices are set to decrease starting Wednesday. This reduction comes as a welcomed development for South Africans navigating a challenging economic environment, particularly as they embark on a much-anticipated festive break.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy recently announced a substantial decrease of 65 cents per litre for both grades of petrol, and diesel is expected to see a reduction ranging between R2.35 and R2.41 per litre. The driving factors behind these adjustments are lower crude oil prices and the strengthening of the rand against the US dollar.

Once the fuel price decrease takes effect, the cost per litre of 95 Unleaded petrol will be R22.53 at the coast and R23.25 in Gauteng, while 93 Unleaded will retail at R22.79. Additionally, the wholesale price of 50ppm diesel is projected to decrease to R21.28 at the coast and R21.99 inland. It’s important to note that these figures exclude retail margins, which may vary between outlets. This development marks a positive turn for motorists during a challenging economic period ahead of the festive season.
