Uber ropes in young Kagiso Khaole as the new general manager for Sub-Saharan Africa

Uber has announced a major appointment as they also confirmed the departure of Frans Hiemstra who will now serve as the regional manager for the Middle East and Africa.

In the wake of this development, the company roped in Kagiso Khaole as the new general manager for Uber in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Khaole is not really new in the company as he joined Uber last year, leading mobility operations across SSA, and he has previously worked in several industries.

His experience involves working in the eCommerce, Software and Services, Consumer Electronics, Management Consulting, Insurance, and Banking sectors.

According to his predecessor, Hiemstra, Khaole’s experience makes him a suitable candidate to drive growth for the business in the region.

“Kagiso’s contribution to the rides business has been nothing short of excellent, and I am confident that our SSA region will continue to grow from strength to strength under his leadership,” said Hiemstra.

As per the company, the African continent is an exciting market for the global technology firm as it recently facilitated 1 billion trips on the continent since making an entry almost a decade ago.

It is reported that Uber has also created over 3 million economic opportunities across the rides and delivery businesses.

After his appointment, the young Khaole expressed delight in his new position and he remains hopeful as far as the future is concerned. 

He also considers himself privileged to be part of a company that has such a tangible impact on the cities and communities it operates and says they are committed to raising the bar.

“We are certainly excited about the future, especially because next year, we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary in SSA,” he added.

“We continue to remain committed to raising the bar on safety, as well as improving the experience of drivers, delivery people and riders using the Uber app – I am excited to be a part of this journey.”

Uber operates in over 50 cities across South Africa, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Uganda.
