Table Mountain Cableway set to shut down for a while due to maintenance

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) has revealed that all it’s cable car operations will be closed for a few weeks in late July and early August so that annual maintenance work can take place.

Because of this, cable cars will not be working between 24 July and 7 August. The Wahida Parker who is the managing director, said maintenance and safety were a priority at the company.

Wahida said their annual maintenance periods allow them to make important updates and upgrades to all aspects of their business and operations so that they can offer visitors an even better and more enjoyable experience by the time they reopen.

In the last year, the maintenance operations closed for six weeks due to major works. It seems like the works this time though are less intense and require only two weeks of closure.

“Whether it is a long or a short closure, our priority is always the safety and comfort of our visitors and our staff members. We conform to the best safety standards and our annual closures help us to check that we are meeting these requirements,” said Parker.

She said that they are aware that the closure will take place while the Netball World Cup is taking place in Cape Town, and that holidaymakers from Europe will also be landing in the Western Cape. But they are prioritising safety first.

Parker said hikers and climbers will still be able to enjoy the various hiking routes during this time. However, no trips will be made during the two weeks. She emphasised that the food-and-beverage options and shops at the lower cableway station would not be operational during the shutdown.
