Load-shedding crushes internet speeds in South Africa's most top mobile neighbourhoods

According to Analytico’s most recent data, Bryanston, Century City, and Garsfontein had the fastest mobile Internet in South Africa at the start of 2023.

The data is based on 267,853 tests performed on the MyBroadband Speedtest app since January 1, 2023.

MyBroadband’s speed test servers are hosted in Teraco’s vendor-neutral data centres, ensuring that users may test their connections in a neutral environment.

Network operators can connect to MyBroadband’s speed test platform for free via NAPAfrica’s peering points.

These testing include in-house driving tests around the country as well as data gathered from app users.

Surprisingly, no location had an average download speed of more than 100 Mbps, which had been frequent in prior studies.

This might be due to the impact of load-shedding on mobile networks.

Bryanston had an average speed of 93 Mbps, whereas Century City had a speed of less than 80 Mbps.

Upload averages have also fallen, with just Bryanston averaging more over 20 Mbps, a mark that the whole field used to exceed.
