In 2022 Google’s internal spreadsheet containing data of their over 12,000 employees was leaked to Business Insider. The data showed that the median total compensation was $279,802, with their top software engineers leading those who earn the highest with a maximum base salary of $718,000 last year.

The spreadsheet shared the salaries of U.S. workers covering positions like software engineers, business analysts, and salespeople. According to reports, Google determines its staffers’ base salaries using a tier-based system with levels two through 11.

According to the report, Google employees’ earnings go beyond base salaries and include equity options and bonuses. The maximum equity a software engineer could obtain was $1.5 million in 2022.

The data shows only U.S full-time employees and does not include salaries from Alphabet’s Other Bets ventures, such as Waymo and Verily.

Software engineer: $718,000

Engineering manager (software engineering): $400,000
