Google to train 20,000 Nigerian Women in digital skills

According to Google Africa executives, the company is set to train 20 000 Nigerian women and youth in digital skills and provide a grant of ₦1.2-billion naira (R30-million) to help the government create one million digital jobs in the country, according to Reuters.

The Africa executive said the programme will be facilitated by grant from its philanthropic arm in partnership with Data Science Nigeria and Creative Industry Initiative for Africa.

Google’s initiative aligned with the government’s commitment to increase youth participation in the digital economy, said Kashim Shettima. She added that the government is also working with the country’s bank on the project.

Olumide Balogun director of Google for West Africa said the company would commit funds and provide a digital skills to women and young people in Nigeria and enable start-ups to grow, which aims to create jobs.
