South Africans continue to embrace Load-shedding as Eskom announces Stage-5

Load shedding stage 5 will resume for all provinces in South Africa on April 12, 2023, with the exception of Cape Town, which will only experience stage 4 load shedding as the city is able to lower greater levels of load shedding through its 180MW Steenbras dam. Eskom announced that the stage is due to higher-than-expected demand.

Eskom halted load shedding during the Easter weekend. Since Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa warned that South Africans should brace themselves for a very cold and dark winter.

South Africans might face a total of 250 days of load shedding, significantly hurting enterprises and the sustaining economic growth, according to the South African Reserve Bank (SARS).

The city encourages South Africans to turn off their appliances during load shedding to shorten the time it takes for power to be restored following load shedding.
