The price of the GWM Ora for South Africa has been announced, revealing the cost of the compact electric vehicle when it goes on sale later this year. The GWM Ora is a stylish and compact city car with a starting price of R716,900 that will soon be available in South African showrooms. In a statement confirming its presence at Nampo’s Harvest Day, GWM Haval also confirmed the upcoming arrival of the hybrid Tank 300, which will be available for public viewing.

The GWM Ora’s launch price is particularly aggressive, positioning it as South Africa’s most affordable electric vehicle. Prior to its release, the Mini Hatch Cooper SE was the most affordable electric vehicle in the country, with a price tag of R742,142. The Mini has an impressive power output of 135 kW and 270 Nm, as well as a claimed range of 217 km.

The new GWM Ora, on the other hand, has a claimed range of 400 km and outputs of 126 kW and 250 Nm. According to GWM, it can be fast-charged with an 80 kW DC charger, allowing it to go from 10% to 80% battery capacity in 41 minutes. The Ora variant, which is available in South Africa, has a 63 kWh battery, but a smaller 48 kWh version is also available.

Conrad Groenewald, Chief Operations Officer of Haval Motors South Africa, expressed his enthusiasm for the GWM Ora’s introduction, highlighting the use of a Dragon Volt battery from SVolt Energy Technology Co. The cobalt-free battery is well-known for its durability and longevity.

Given the significant price difference between the entry-level and top-spec models, it is reasonable to expect the GWM Ora to come in a variety of configurations. The South African market’s equipment levels have yet to be confirmed, but right-hand drive Australian models tested earlier this year featured 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen combined with a digital instrument cluster, USB ports in the front and rear, a wireless charging pad, selectable drive modes, LED lighting, climate control, and 60/40-split folding rear seats.

There is currently no breakdown available for the various GWM Ora variants. GWM Haval has confirmed a price range, indicating that more detailed information about the trim levels will be provided closer to the vehicle’s debut.
