East African airline, Ethiopian Airlines has reached a milestone as it has accrued 750,000 tonnes of cargo in 2022 with flowers accounting for 110,000 tonnes. East African airline, Ethiopian Airlines has reached a milestone as it has accrued 750,000 tonnes of cargo in 2022 with flowers accounting for 110,000 tonnes.
High-tech cargo accounted for 54,500 tonnes, pharmaceuticals 30,000 tonnes, and vaccines 1,500 tonnes, says the airline. Ethiopian carried 22,500 tonnes of salmon and 6,000 live animals.
The leading African airline operator flew 950 charter flights and was granted the IATA CEIV pharma certifications for airline and ground handling.
Ethiopian is now planning an e-commerce logistics centre, integrated end-to-end solutions, and the capacity to handle 150,000 tonnes per annum.
BusinessTech Africa has discovered that the carrier is the largest cargo network operator in Africa with 65 cargo destinations.
The cargo carrier handles over 2,000 tonnes daily of which over 600 tonnes are transported in belly holds.
“Through a revision of its vision 2025, Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services is planning to grow its cargo network to 90 destinations and operate 37 freighter aircraft by 2035.”
In a previous post, this website posted that Ethiopian Airlines reached an agreement with TravoCure Healthcare to ferry passengers seeking medical care in India.
Various aviation publications reported that the East African Airliner, Ethiopian, has formally partnered with TravoCure which is a subsidiary of the Akbar Group.
The partnership was meant to see Ethiopian Airlines providing services for travellers from the African continent to India for medical purposes.
Laing Buisson News posted that the two parties, Ethiopian and TravoCure, are set to conduct joint promotional activities to highlight India as a medical tourism destination.
