Diesel prices significantly reduced for April, with  slight changes in petrol pricing

On Wednesday, the price of diesel will be reduced by more than 73 cents per litre, with a 1 cent drop in 93 unleaded petrol and a 2 cent increase in 95.

According to the department of natural resources and energy, diesel 0.05% sulphur will be reduced by 73.58c per litre, while 0.005% sulphur would be reduced by 74.58c per litre.

Fuel prices, which will be altered on Wednesday, 5 April, are heavily influenced by the oil price as well as the rand, because oil is purchased in dollars.

Since the Brent oil price has dropped from above $84 per barrel to below $80 in the last month, the rand has suffered a significant hit.

It has been steadiing in recent days, with a significant boost following a larger-than-expected rate rise last Thursday.

On Wednesday, the price of a litre of 95 unleaded petrol in Gauteng will rise to R22.97. In Gauteng a year ago, 95-octane fuel cost R21.60.

In Gauteng, diesel will cost roughly R20.89 per litre. Diesel cost more than R21 a year ago.

Petrol prices increased by R1.27 per litre at the beginning of March, while diesel prices jumped by 30c to 32c per litre.
